The knit wool sweater is perhaps the premier folk art of Norway. Examples from as far back as the
9th century - the Viking era - trace the history of the unique style of knitting that developed
in this ancient country of icy weather, green fields and abundant sheep. The earliest Norwegian
sweaters were the simple colors of natural wool, but eventually, the bright dyes were introduced
that make these sweaters woven jewels.
Apart from the obvious practical warmth these pure wool sweaters provide, Norwegian women's lore
said that if a woman were to knit a beautiful sweater for a suitor, it would bring about a marriage
proposal.
While we can't promise you that, we do assure you that a gift of one of our genuine, new wool
Norwegian sweaters will be truly appreciated by a loved one. Suitable for apres-ski wear and
dressy occasions, a true Norwegian sweater will last a lifetime.
